High protein intake is associated with higher chances of healthy aging. At least these are the results of a study conducted by researchers at the Human Nutrition Research Center at Tufts University.

Scientists have grouped 48,762 participants aged under 60 in 1984. Their health status was studied until 2016. At that time, scientists compared the diets of healthy people with those who had developed eleven chronic diseases.

” THE vegetable proteins were associated with better physical functions and good mental status. In substitution analyses, we observed significant positive associations by replacing animal or dairy proteins, carbohydrates or fats with plant proteins. say the scientists in the study’s conclusions.

Thus, by increasing the intake of plant proteins, it is possible to reduce the risk of developing heart disease, the onset of cancer or diabetes. Participants also have better cognitive and mental health.
