The National Union of Haitian Police Officers (SYNAPOHA) confirms the assassination on Thursday afternoon of three people including two police officers by bandits in Carrefour, in the Arcachon 32 zone. Witnesses report that the bandits left with the bodies after the crime.
The euphoria displayed during the deployment of the first Kenyan contingent of the Multinational Mission for Security Support (MMAS) quickly dissipated due to the latest events in Port-au-Prince in recent weeks. No real initiative by African police officers to subdue armed groups has been observed, except for a few parades in neighborhoods more or less spared by armed violence.
The Haitian National Police (PNH) continues to be the victim of bandits grouped within the criminal organization “Viv ansanm” with police officers assassinated and symbols attacked and burned. This Thursday, three people were assassinated by armed individuals including two police officers, reports SYNAPOHA. The attack targeting the victims was perpetrated in the Arcachon 32 neighborhood, specifies the union which denounces the worrying security situation that reigns in the country.
According to sources, the identity of the police officers is two officers assigned to the General Security Unit of the National Palace (USGPN). Thelémaque Lozama and Yves Nord are two well-known figures in the town of Carrefour targeted by the deadly gang attack. It should be recalled that since April 18, the Omega Police Station in Carrefour has been deserted by the police. On a daily basis, heavily armed bandits roam the streets without being disturbed. The citizens’ call for intervention by specialized units has remained unanswered.
