Three police officers were killed this Sunday, June 9 in an ambush at Sans Fil, Delmas 18, and another was injured, confirms the PNH in a press release.
The victims, members of the Anti-Gang Tactical Unit (UTAG), were identified as Fermetus Emelin, from the 30th promotion of the PNH, Clovis Peterson from the 32nd promotion, and Jean Junior Wilkens Piton from the 31st promotion.
Furthermore, according to the National Union of Haitian Police Officers (SYNAPOHA), Wilkens Jean Junior, member of the 31st promotion, has disappeared.
This incident occurs as Haiti awaits the arrival of the Multinational Security Support Mission, intended to strengthen stability and national security.
In a press release released the same day, the Presidential Transitional Council expressed its indignation at this deadly ambush and reiterated its determination to strengthen the operational capacities of the Haitian police.
“The Transitional Presidential Council renews its firm determination to do everything possible to strengthen the operational capacity of the Haitian public force in order to neutralize armed bands and thus promote the prevalence of a climate of peace and serenity throughout the country. “extent of the national territory”, we can read in the press release.
Following the assassination of the police officers, it should be noted that the DGPNH launched an investigation and expressed its sympathies to the parents of the victims. According to PNH spokesperson Garry Desrosiers, measures will be put in place to support the families of police officers.
