July 7, 2024 marks the third anniversary of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. The Democratic Resistance Platform (RED) issued a statement calling for justice for the murder that shook the nation. The group insists on the need for a thorough investigation and judicial reform to honor the memory of the late president.
In this statement, RED highlights the many unfulfilled promises of the Moïse administration, including improvements to national infrastructure, agricultural development, and educational reform due to his assassination. RED recalls that Jovenel Moïse had a dream for Haiti: the establishment of a rule of law, equality before the law, and access to opportunities for all citizens. However, three years after his death, this dream remains largely unfulfilled.
The document highlights the current state of the nation, marked by corruption and violence, and calls on the authorities to take concrete measures to correct these dysfunctions. The signatories, Renald Luberice and Claude Joseph, urge Haitian citizens to remain mobilized and not to lose hope in the quest for justice. They call for a national unity to overcome the challenges and realize Moïse’s democratic and economic aspirations.
RED also calls on all progressive sectors in the country to continue fighting for justice and progress. Women, youth, students, workers and traders are invited to unite under the banner of justice to fight impunity and demand meaningful reforms.
In his order made public, Judge Walter Wesser Voltaire charged a group of personalities including his wife Martine Moïse and close collaborators of President Jovenel, including the two signatories of the note. The latter see an order tailor-made to transform the victims into executioners. They went so far as to speak of political persecution.
