Saturday, September 26, 2020 ((rezonodwes.com))–Caribbean countries added their voice Saturday to repeated calls for the lifting of the American blockade against Cuba, a frequent call in this high-level debate of the 75th United Nations General Assembly .

With the exception of Haitian leader Jovenel Moise preferring last Thursday to plead the cause of Taiwan, which would have made him a loan of $150 million for its stillborn 24/7 electricity project, in his virtual speech before the plenary of the largest United Nations body, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Allen Michael Chastanet, stressed that the time has come to lift the blockade against Cuba, which has a negative impact on its population and also on all Caribbean countries.

Furthermore, he said that Saint Lucia would never have succeeded in confronting the Covid-19 pandemic without the support of Cuba, a country which, despite its own difficulties, tends a ” friendly hand in the world“, he revealed.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Timothy Harris, considered that at present, more than ever, vulnerable nations should be free to access Cuba’s experience in matters health and many other areas of global concern.

He also rejected the existence of the obsolete blockade against Cuba, which goes against the spirit of the global alliances we want for the future.

Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Alexander Minnis supported the call for an end to the U.S. siege on Cuba and said he would vote in favor of the annual General Assembly resolution condemning the policy.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley, also called, during the general debate at the UN, for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

Since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution every year condemning the American blockade against Cuba and calling for its end.
