The Biden administration will not send American troops to Haiti to help the national police respond to the escalation of violence that has erupted in recent days in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, according to revelations made by the American daily Miami Herald this Monday March 4, 2024.

The American administration is categorical. No sending American troops to the country. Their decision comes after a 72-hour communication between American and Haitian diplomatic officials who raised the prospect of an emergency deployment of American special forces to respond to the crisis, fearing that a long-planned international security mission, led by Kenya, was not ready to deploy in time to respond.

“The United States is not sending American troops to Haiti to support the security operations of the Haitian National Police,” a National Security Council official told the newspaper.

“We are urgently mobilizing all the support that we and the international community can immediately provide to Haiti, particularly to the Haitian National Police, to ensure that they are able to restore security for the good of the people,” specifies the manager.

The gangs came together under the label “Living Together” to demand the departure of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. This Monday, sporadic shots were heard in the vicinity of Toussaint Louverture airport, which the gangs want to take hostage.

Currently, Ariel Henry is trying to return to Haiti from a trip to Kenya to finalize the agreement for a deployment of a Multinational Security Support Mission. In the process, the government currently led by Michel Patrick Bois-Vert in the absence of Ariel Henry declared a state of emergency in the West department.
