Peter Navarro, a former adviser to former President Donald Trump, has been released from prison after serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. Convicted of refusing to comply with a subpoena as part of the investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol, Navarro is already planning to attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week.
Navarro, a former White House economic adviser, saw his political future secured by former President Trump, who said last May that he would “absolutely” rehire him if he returned to office. Convicted in 2023 of two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to provide documents and testify before the House select committee, Navarro remains a controversial but influential figure within the Republican movement.
