Dupuy Resignation
The permanent representative of Haiti to UNESCO, Dominique Dupuy, whose name was proposed to CARICOM to be a member of the Presidential Transitional Council, has just announced that she is withdrawing from the said structure. In a video made public on Sunday, she thanks the EDE/RED/Compromis historique platform for choosing her for this position and reiterates her desire to continue to serve her country.
As reasons for this departure, the diplomat mentions, among other things, the attacks to which she has been subject since her name was proposed by the EDE/RED/Compromis historique platform to be part of this entity which will be in charge of lead the transition in Haiti.
With the withdrawal of Ms. Dupuy from the Presidential Council, the actors involved in implementing the transition in Haiti, including CARICOM, will have to get back on the discussion table in order to find a replacement. This issue adds to the difficult discussions already underway to know who should chair the said Council or who should have the right to vote.
Recall that Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced on March 12 that he would resign from his post after the installation of the nine-member Presidential Council (seven voting members representing seven political platforms and two observers representing civil society).
