In a letter addressed to the head of Radio Mega, the National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) demanded the immediate suspension of the program “Boukante Lapawòl”.
Indeed, in this letter addressed to the president and CEO of the station, Alex Saint-Surin, CONATEL denounces what it calls the dissemination of propaganda in favor of armed groups, in particular gang leaders such as Jeff “Gwo Lwa » and Jimmy Cherisier.
“These broadcasts allowed individuals linked to violence and instability to spread messages of hatred and terror across the capital. This situation constitutes a serious violation of Haitian laws, in particular those governing telecommunications services,” writes the regulatory body, recalling that the boss Barbecue is wanted by the Haitian justice system and sanctioned by the United Nations for acts of terrorism.
Recalling the state of emergency decreed by the government, CONATEL maintains that the broadcast of such broadcasts endangers national security.
As a last resort, the National Telecommunications Council has stressed to Radio Méga that severe sanctions may be taken against it, in particular the suspension of the station’s concession in the event of non-compliance with this injunction.
