P-au-P., February 26, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The American Agency for International Development (USAID) will have to provide an initial amount of 10 million US dollars (Editor’s note: US $ 1.00=140.00 gourdes; 1 euro=145.00 gourdes; 1 Canadian dollar=99.00 gourdes; 1 peso Dominican=2.40 gourdes today) to improve the capacity and performance of institutions and markets in the water sector in Haiti, announces the representative of the United States of America to the United Nations (UN) , Linda Thomas-Greenfield, in a press release seen by the online agency AlterPresse.

The announcement was made this Monday, February 26, 2024 in Georgetown (Guyana), during the 46th ordinary meeting of the Conference of Governments of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), in which the de facto Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry is participating.

This financial support aims to help institutions plan for the financing and provision of safe and reliable drinking water services, before, during and after shocks and stresses, such as climate crises, health pandemics and civil unrest .

Thanks to this funding, one million Haitians will have access to climate-resilient sources of drinking water, according to USAID. [emb rc apr 26/02/2024 14:40]
