West Indies’ dreams of securing a semi-final spot in the ICC Under-19 World Cup were dashed as rain led to the abandonment of their crucial Super Six clash with Australia in Kimberley, South Africa.

In their pursuit of a target of 228 for victory, West Indies had reached 24 for two in the fifth over when lightning followed by persistent rain forced officials to call off the match.

The result earned West Indies just one point, leaving them in third place in Group 2, with Australia and South Africa advancing to the semi-finals.

Had a good chance of winning

Despite losing two early wickets, West Indies fast bowler Isai Thorne believed they had a good chance of winning the game if not for the weather interruption.

Australia, sent in to bat, was led by Sam Konstas’ century, but West Indies’ bowling effort restricted them to 227 for eight off their 50 overs.
