Organizations and Individuals Ask Lula to Refuse the Invasion of Haiti

A collective of organizations and citizens came together to send a letter to Brazilian President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, expressing their firm opposition to any further military intervention in Haiti. The letter, dated March 24, 2024 and issued from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, highlights the serious consequences of past interventions and urges Brazil to withdraw from the Core Group.

These signatories, representing various organizations in solidarity with the Haitian people, underline the negative results of the ten military interventions that have occurred in the country, which have exacerbated poverty, violations of human rights and acts of violence. They notably recall the MINUSTAH operation, led by a Brazilian general, which was associated with massacres in Cité Soleil, among other atrocities.

The call to withdraw Brazil from the Core Group, an international coalition involved in the management of Haitian affairs, is part of a desire to respect the sovereignty and self-determination of the Haitian people. The signatories also denounce foreign interference which has often resulted in the installation of puppet governments and the perpetuation of violence in the country.

The letter warns of Southern Command’s (Comando Sur) plans for further intervention in Haiti, highlighting the disastrous consequences of such action for the already battered Haitian people. She asks Lula to refuse this path and to commit to a peaceful resolution that respects human rights for the Haitian people.

In conclusion, the signatories express their expectation of a positive response to their request, reminding Lula that solidarity and respect for human rights must guide international actions, particularly in contexts as sensitive as that of Haiti. This letter is the fruit of a transnational mobilization, illustrating solidarity between peoples and the desire to defend justice and peace in the world.

Sign letter for President Lula, No invasion of Haiti Santo Domingo, DR March 24, 2024 To: Mr. Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva,

Honorable President of the Federal Republic of Brazil

Via: Mr. Carlos Pérez His Excellency Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil in the Dominican RepublicDistinguished

Mr. president:

The undersigned, members of organizations from various countries in solidarity with the struggle of the Haitian people, speak before you with the reason of requesting the withdrawal of Brazil from the Core Group and also not supporting a new military intervention in Haiti. It is important to emphasize that none of the 10 interventions perpetrated on Haitian soil have yielded positive data for the people; on the contrary, they have brought more misery, murders, violations of human rights, among other calamities.

We remind you that the last intervention, the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH, which lasted 13 years), initially commanded by Brazilian General Augusto Heleno, who began the bloody massacres in Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince, under the pretext After chasing armed bandits in 2005 with 300 soldiers with helicopter gunships and tanks, they penetrated the humble tin houses, mowing down entire families during the night, children in their cribs, pregnant women, elderly people who were only sleeping. That massacre left 63 people dead and 30 injured. These same cruel events were repeated with other balances in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

All of these unfortunate events were documented by the Brazilian Bar Federation (OAB), which carried out an observation mission in Haiti from June 23 to July 3, 2007 and found that MINUSTAH played a “violent” and “oppressive” role. ”.

In the last 30 years, as we mentioned above, the Republic of Haiti has been militarily intervened on 10 occasions by the owners of the Monroe doctrine and now by the nefarious colonialist, guardian role of the Core Group. This reality also explains our request regarding Brazil’s withdrawal from the Core Group, thus respecting the human rights and self-determination of the Haitian people.

In this framework, Brazil would avoid staining its hands again with the blood of the Haitian people. The Homeland of Dessalines and Petion deserves to receive solidarity and not abuses.

Furthermore, these interventions have served to fix fraudulent elections, managed by the United States, imposing puppet presidents, and arming paramilitary gangs. These, created by the far-right Parti Haïtien Tèt Kale (PHTK) government, operate with weapons that arrive from US ports, to confront popular protests and struggles. All this and more are the causes of the situation that the Haitian people suffer today.

As you already know, the Southern Command has announced that it is preparing to intervene in Haiti, to impose the new puppets of the Government Council. It will be a bloodbath in the land of the birthers of freedom.

Mr. President Lula, those who have created the serious situation in Haiti cannot be the solution. Well, soldiers in the service of the UN have violated Haitian sovereignty, they have brought cholera to Haiti (a disease that was not known in that territory), they have raped women, girls and boys, they have massacred, and until now no apologies have been made. nor was reparation offered. Waiting for a prompt positive response to our request, we greet you very carefully. Note, we will update it little by little
