THE ELECTION FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE CPT SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 30: THE PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION COUNCIL PROMISES A TRANSPARENT ELECTION
Port-au-Prince, April 28, 2024 – The Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) of Haiti officially announced that the process of designating its president will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Villa d’Accueil .
A press release from the CPT states that this election will take place under the sign of transparency, with the participation of the press and representatives of the sectors involved in the political agreement at the origin of the creation of the CPT.
Sectors mentioned include SDP and Fusion. They are in fact under fire for not having respected the deadline of the agreement of December 21, providing for the end of the “self-proclaimed mandate” of Ariel Henry on February 7, 2024.
This announcement comes against a backdrop of persistent political tensions and planned violence by terrorist gangs in Haiti, as the population impatiently awaits the emergence of stable and legitimate power. All eyes are now on the electoral process on April 30, which is expected to provide decisive clarity on the future direction of the country.
