Following the appointment of Fritz Bélizaire as prime minister, the Organization of American States expressed its disagreement and calls for respect for the procedure established, for the choice of prime minister, by the agreement between the different sectors making up the Presidential Council of transition, however the regional organization welcomes the arrival of Edgard the White at the head of the Presidential Council.
Port-au-Prince, May 1, 2024.- “We congratulate today’s appointment of the president of the presidential council, a crucial step in the implementation of Haiti’s national political agreement. The transparent and rule-compliant appointment of a Prime Minister as well as the rapid formation of a new government are vital for the stability of the country,” he writes.
He stresses that it is essential to maintain the momentum, support the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) by the United Nations Security Council and open a credible path to Haiti’s democratic renewal. .
It should be remembered that the majority bloc in the presidential council had not only chosen Égard Leblanc Fils as president but also, unilaterally, Fritz Bélizaire as prime minister.
