Anebert Joseph, the Director of the National Bethel Bethesda School located in the North West Department of Haiti is no longer authorized to direct or teach until further notice. His license was suspended by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) for mistreating a student ridden by a loa (a voodoo spirit).

THE HAITI FACTOR, May 2, 2024._The license to direct and teach the Director of the Béthel Béthesda National School located in the North West has been suspended by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP). This is Anebert Joseph.

In a press release published on Thursday, May 2, 2024, the MENFP informs that it has taken this decision following a report received from the Departmental Directorate of the North-West confirming the mistreatment with whipping of a student ridden by a loa on date from Monday April 22, 2024.

The behavior of Director Anebert Joseph in no way reflects the principles of education. It preferably derogates from legal regulations prohibiting corporal punishment within educational institutions, recalls the Ministry through the said press release.

In addition to the suspension of his license, other administrative measures will be taken against the Director after the ongoing investigation into the facts that took place in the classroom is deepened.

In addition, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training says it is taking the necessary measures to provide psychological support to the student victim.

Upset by the action taken by Anebert Joseph, the MENFP reminds school directors of their obligation to respect the right to learn of all children in non-violence.
