Refoulement of Haitians with American, Canadian or Schengen visas landing at airports in the Dominican Republic: Questions about the reasons
According to a credible source, several Haitian nationals coming from the United States, Canada and France, with valid visas in their passports, were turned back aboard the same planes with which they arrived while they were going to Dominican Republic. These incidents were recorded at Santiago, Las Américas and Punta Cana airports in the Dominican Republic.
Dominican immigration officials have indicated that, for the moment, any Haitian national who does not have a Dominican visa in their passport will not be able to transit or stay in the Dominican Republic. The move has raised questions about its justification, especially since no Dominican government official has yet provided an explanation.
A source informed us that theHaitian embassy in the Dominican Republic plans to write to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of that country to clarify the situation. We will continue to monitor this matter closely and provide more details as they become available.
