The D-day has arrived: the Grenadières under-17s face the Costa Rican football selection this Thursday as part of the first day of the U-17 World Cup qualifiers.
Having fallen into a tough group with Mexico, El Salvador and Costa Rica, the Grenadières, under the leadership of Marc Ogé, will try, against all odds, to force their luck to get out of their group and then emerge in the final of the Concacaf championship, which will give them the right to compete in the eighth edition of the Under-17 World Cup.
Costa Rica is the first test for the Haitians who wish to follow in the footsteps of Melchie Dumornay and Nérilia Mondesir who succeeded last summer in qualifying the country for its first senior World Cup (Australia & New Zealand).
Led by the inevitable Pierreline Nazon, the Haitian selection, also having a range of talented players capable of making the difference at any time, can surprise the big names in these qualifiers.
Mexico playing at home, the United States and Canada, big favorites for the tournament, do not scare Marc Ogé who says he is concentrating on his own game while praising the merits of his Grenadières, ready to fight to take one of the tickets for the Dominican World Cup.
“We will have to watch Pierreline Nazon for example, and Lourdjina Étienne. Aslie [Laguerre] also, and then Néhémie Sainvilus,” warns the Haitian technician stipulating that these protégés will “give a lot to the World Cup”
” These girls […] sharp” and effective in front of goals have “the ability to play on the offensive, with good dribbling and really powerful shots”, testified Marc Ogé in a interview with FIFA
The match against Costa Rica is scheduled for this Thursday starting at 1 p.m. Haitian time.
