American actress Meryl Streep will receive another distinction in her career on May 14, 2024. At the 7th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, an honorary Palme d’Or will be awarded to him in tribute to his magnificent career.

Crowned with the Best Actress Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 35 years ago, Meryl Streep was rewarded for the role of Lindy Chamberlain in “A Cry in the Dark” by Fred Schepisi in 1989.

The Palme d’Honneur is awarded by the directors of the Cannes Film Festival. This prize is awarded out of competition and is awarded to an individual and not to a film. As of May 8, 2024, a dozen personalities have received such a distinction.

Alongside Meryl Streep, American filmmaker George Lucas will receive a Palm of Honor for his entire career. Also, the Festival will award a Palm of Honor to Studio Ghibli for all of its creations and its influence on the world of animation, thus becoming the very first Palm of Honor awarded to a collective.

Meryl Streep has won 3 Oscars, including 2 for Best Actress. She won her first Oscar for “Sophie’s Choice” in 1983 and in 2012 received the Oscar for best actress for the second time for her role in “The Iron Lady”. In 1980, Meryl Streep won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Kramer vs. Kramer” and also won a Golden Globe in the same category.
