The United States Ambassador to Port-au-Prince, Mr. Denis Hankins, said he was devastated by the assassination of two American missionaries last week. During his intervention on the Télé Métropole program “Le Point”, the diplomat expressed his regret at not having been able to help the couple, emphasizing the absence of military resources available to the embassy.

“We don’t have an army or special forces,” he insisted, highlighting the limits of the assistance they could provide in this tragic context.

Furthermore, Mr. Hankins explained that the Haitian police forces were also helpless in the situation, being unable to access areas controlled by the gangs. The diplomat took a firm tone, saying the gangs had only two options: surrender and go to prison, or die. He also highlighted the suffering endured by Haitians, victims of atrocities committed by these criminal groups. The chaos caused by gangs continues to plunge the population into a desperate situation.

Nevertheless, Mr Hankins assured that concrete measures were being taken to restore order. He announced that soldiers from the multinational mission would soon be deployed on the ground, revealing that the first base built by the Americans was ready. Efforts are now focused on establishing the aviation necessary for the success of the mission. The United States remains committed, both financially and logistically, to supporting this initiative and contributing to the stabilization of the region.
