In Port-au-Prince, gunshot deaths are no longer counted
In less than 24 hours, at least 5 people were murdered in Port-au-Prince. Before the arrival of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), the increase in acts of insecurity made people fear the worst, citizens commented.
Armed individuals traveling on motorcycles murdered, on Wednesday May 29, on rue Capois, the director of the Sisters Sainte-Marie des Anges School, Garcia Dominique Petit Papa. According to witnesses, the victim was trying to resist a kidnapping attempt when he was shot. Hit by several bullets, his vehicle was able to end up against a wall.
Other more macabre scenes of violence such as the discovery, this Thursday in Delmas 19, of three bullet-riddled corpses raise fears of an increase in cases of serial assassination in Port-au-Prince. Death squads operate in neighborhoods deserted by their residents, but controlled by gangs. Since the events of February 2, during which two large prison centers in the capital (the National Penitentiary and the Croix-des-Bouquets Civil Prison) were attacked and emptied by the criminal coalition of “Viv ansanm”, the security climate has practically deteriorated.
In downtown Port-au-Prince, on the outskirts of the National Palace, corpses devoured by stray dogs spread the stench. At the same time, cases of citizens attacked by bandits in the vicinity of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) are reported in the press. Three employees of the road services section of Port-au-Prince City Hall were shot and wounded on Wednesday in an armed attack perpetrated by criminals on the Bicentenaire. Under the eyes of police officers holed up in an armored vehicle crisscrossing the area, they were almost executed, they testified on social media.
