The Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) opened an investigation into the National Education Fund (FNE) this Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Loop Haiti learned.
This action follows suspicions of corruption brought to light by lawyer Caleb Jean-Baptiste on April 12, 2024. The documents revealed by the latter suggest that members of the FNE administration would receive extremely high salaries.
“In their capacity as OPJ mandated by the Director General, Me Hans Ludwidg Joseph, ULCC investigators today carried out a search of the National Education Fund (FNE). This operation takes place within the framework of a ongoing investigation into reported acts of corruption.”, we can read on the X account of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC).
According to available information, the revelations go further, indicating that more than 7 billion gourdes have been embezzled since the appointment of Ronald Joseph as head of the FNE.
In addition, according to some reports, the delays in payment of the FNE since 2023 have had consequences for many students receiving scholarships.
The students concerned, registered as part of the 2021 scholarship program established in partnership with the Conference of Rectors and Presidents of Haitian Universities (CORPUHA), are now prevented from following their courses. Faced with this situation, universities require these students to pay their own tuition fees.
Remember that last May, this file was submitted to investigating judge Merlan Malabre who questioned Jean Ronald Joseph concerning these accusations of corruption against him. He went to the magistrate’s office to answer questions relating to this case.
