Stabbing pain in the lower back, buttock and leg, difficulty moving the leg… So many symptoms that can characterize a sciatic painalso called “sciatica”. As explained by Health Insurance, it is“pain in the lower limb located along the path of the sciatic nerve”. This last “provides both sensitivity and certain movements of a part of the lower limb: it is sensitive and motor”. In case of pain, it is essential to make an appointment with a specialist to confirm the diagnosis and take the measures recommended by the doctor.

On the social network Instagram, sports physiotherapist Quentin Soumet, also known under the pseudonym @quentin_rokt, shared an exercise for “to reduce or even stop sciatica-type pain”. As the physiotherapist explains on his Instagram account, these are neuro-dynamic mobilizations.

Sciatica Pain: A Physiotherapist’s Exercise to Reduce It

First, Quentin Soumet specifies that there are rare cases of contraindications. This exercise is therefore not not recommended to people with a tumor or cancer of the nervous system or spine, who suffer from an acute inflammatory condition or an infectious condition of the nervous system.

The specialist specifies that this exercise helps reduce pain because it mobilizes the nerve along its path. In his publication, the physiotherapist explains that this exercise is not effective if to hernia is not resolved. “On the other hand, it works well afterwards on residual pain,” he adds.

To perform the movement, sit on a chair with your back straight, your hands crossed behind your back and your feet anchored to the ground. Then, lift one leg while simultaneously tilting your head back. Then, bend the leg to bring the foot under the chair. In this same movement, tilt your head against your chest. Then, repeat the movement. The physiotherapist explains that it is possible to start with five minutes of movements.

It should be noted that in the event of pain, it is important to make an appointment with a doctor for appropriate follow-up.
