Several thousand people once again took to the streets of Port-au-Prince and provincial towns on Tuesday February 6, 2024 to demand the departure of Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

At least one individual was injured during the demonstrations in Pétion-ville. Protesters attributed the injury to the intervention of the police, who reportedly used tear gas and bullets to disperse protesters demanding Henry’s departure.

According to testimonies collected, in the same area, at least five members of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP) rebelled against the authorities, who prohibited them from circulating with weapons in the towns.

Armed with their weapons, the members of the BSAP, rallying to the opposition, were cheered by members of the population.

In various communes such as Jérémie, Cayes, Gonaïves, Miragoâne, Cap-Haïtien and Hinche, residents also took part in demonstrations to demand the Prime Minister. Members of the opposition ask the head of government to respect article 20 of the agreement of December 21, 2022, which stipulates the end, on February 7, 2024, of the interim period of his mandate which began more than 30 years ago. month.

Acts of vandalism and looting were also recorded during the Tuesday mobilization day.

In this context of mobilization, the former senator and rebel leader, Guy Philippe, made a flash appearance in the capital on Tuesday. He announced during a radio broadcast his presence in Port-au-Prince to “support his people”.

The demonstrations will resume this Wednesday, according to members of the opposition.

In Haiti, according to the WFP (World Food Program), almost half of the population suffers from food insecurity and lives in poverty, which led the United Nations Security Council to approve, last October, the sending a multinational security support mission, led by Kenya.
