American Airlines resumed its flights to Port-au-Prince this Thursday, May 30 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, after a three-month closure due to the security situation.
American Airlines thus becomes the first American airline to relaunch commercial flights to Port-au-Prince. The United States Embassy in Haiti welcomed the decision.
“The United States Embassy welcomes the decision of American Airlines to resume its flights to Port-au-Prince and expects that other American airlines will do the same soon,” we can read in a publication on X of The Embassy.
The United States Embassy in Haiti also expressed its gratitude to the National Civil Aviation Office and other Haitian entities, as well as the airport security staff and services, for their collaboration to improve airport security.
Remember that commercial flights resumed at Port-au-Prince airport on May 20, after a suspension of almost three months due to the chaotic situation in the country, marked by gang violence. Airlines Amerijet and Sunrise were the first to land again at these facilities, signaling a gradual return to normal at the capital’s main airport, where dozens of travelers were seen.
