Armed men murdered police officer Barbara Fequi during a kidnapping attempt on rue Camille Léon.
Lionel Lazarre, coordinator of National Union of Haitian Police Officers (SYNAPOHA), confirmed for Juno7 the assassination of policewoman Barbara Fequi, from the 32nd promotion of the Haitian National Police. She was shot dead this Tuesday, May 8, 2024, in the morning, at rue Camille Léon, Bois-Verna, by armed individuals who tried to kidnap her while she was taking a child to school.
“According to the information we have at SYNAPOHA, the police officer was accompanying a child to school. Arriving at rue Camille Léon, she was the victim of a kidnapping attempt. The attackers killed her and took away her firearm. Fortunately, the child is safe and sound”declared Lionel Lazarre.
Since the start of 2023, 17 police officers have been murdered by armed individuals. Lionel Lazarre takes the opportunity to draw the attention of the members of the Presidential Transitional Council to this major problem facing the police. “Instead of fighting for their own interests, members of the Presidential Council should work together to send a clear signal to the population.”
It should be noted that police officer Barbara Fequi worked at the General Directorate of the Haitian National Police, underlined Lionel Lazarre.
