The Dominican president has thrown a spanner in the works. Indeed, Luis Abinader revealed that the former Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, asked him to close the northern border of the Dominican Republic in order to stop the construction of the Massacre River canal. During a meeting held on the night of Tuesday 7 with Dominican journalists who accompanied him on his trip to Washington (United States), the president explained that this private group wanted to use the waters in its favor exclusively, and the Henry’s government was opposed to this, as it would not benefit the Haitians living in that region. Which is false, according to Haitian observers.
Regarding the internal situation in Haiti, President Luis Abinader welcomed the announced arrival of Kenyan military forces from May 26, 2024.
The Dominican leader said he had information that specialized military personnel had been hired to control Port-au-Prince’s international airport. Abinader expressed hope that the international force will succeed in stabilizing Haiti.
