Landslide in Cap-Haitien: the numbers are on the rise again
In the Barrière-Bouteille district, in the city of Cap-Haitien, the irresponsibility of local authorities in anarchic construction is causing victims. A landslide leaves 12 dead and several injured, according to the Municipal Council of the capital of the Nord department.
Interim executive agent Patrick Almonor discusses the provisions adopted to grant a dignified funeral to those lost in a landslide in the Barrière-Bouteille district. In an interview with Radio Kiskeya on Friday, the councilor reported the end of the research work which led to the identification of 12 corpses. No complaints from families regarding cases of missing people have been documented, continues the councilor.
For the moment, machines are at work in the Barrière-Bouteille district, to demolish more than ten small houses built in unsuitable conditions, reveals Patrick Almonor. He hopes to clear the area of exposed construction sites, without mentioning possible compensation.
Other families were placed in accommodation centers while waiting for other support, underlines Patrick Almonor, member of the Cap-Haitien Municipal Commission. In the meantime, it reports inclement weather with an observed suspension of precipitation.
