US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the President of Guyana who is the current Chair of CARICOM, Irfan Ali, to discuss the situation in Haiti.

According to a note from the American Embassy in Haiti, the two men discussed the support to be given to Haiti through the Presidential Transitional Council but also regarding the Multinational Security Support Mission which is supposed to be led by Kenya.

The American official indicated that the United States appreciates the partnership with the regional organization which is helping in the process of establishing the Presidential Council in Haiti.

This meeting takes place in a context where the resigning government led by Ariel Henry reiterated, yesterday Monday 1is April 2024 in a press release, his desire to transfer power to the Presidential Transitional Council, “as quickly as possible”.

The power in place explained that the delay recorded in the publication of the decree to appoint the members of the Council is due, among other things, to the fact that the Council of Ministers stumbled over proven constitutional and legal questions, because the Constitution and Haitian laws nowhere provide for this institution, the creation of which must necessarily precede the appointment of the members who will compose it.
