Bronny James, the son of American basketball superstar and legend Lebron James, was chosen by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, June 27, during the second day of the NBA draft.
The 19-year-old from the University of South Carolina was chosen by the California franchise in 55e position and will therefore play alongside his father next season under the colors of the “Purple and Gold”.
An outcome expected by several observers or NBA insiders who closely followed Bronny James during the trials and also the situation of his father with the Lakers.
Lebron James has not hidden it, he has repeated several times that he wanted to play with his son before retiring. At 39, the NBA’s leading scorer will be able to fulfill this dream and enter history as the first father who played alongside his son in the NBA.
“My senior year, I’ll play with my son,” the four-time NBA champion told The Athletic in 2022. “Wherever Bronny is, that’s where I’ll be. I will do what it takes to play with my son,” he promised.
The Lakers will allow the NBA’s leading scorer to play with his son, something that has never happened before in the American basketball league.
A father and son have never played at the same time in the NBA, better yet in the same franchise.
The 22e Lebron James’ NBA career year is shaping up to be an interesting one.
