Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stressed that the security crisis in Haiti “will only be resolved with progress in the political process.” Lula made this statement on Wednesday, during the 46e meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), in Georgetown, Guyana.

In his intervention, the Brazilian head of state also called on Caricom to support the multinational security support mission in Haiti. “The involvement of the Caribbean region in the multinational UN mission and the engagement of the group of eminent Caricom personalities in mediation between Haitian political forces are of the utmost importance,” he said. he declares.

Further, Lula calls for decisions aimed at acting quickly on the economic and security crisis which is plaguing the Haitian population. “Unfortunately, the international community did not pay attention when Brazil warned that the stabilization effort would not be sustainable without massive support for the country’s development and institutional strengthening,” Lula criticized.

Furthermore, he declared that currently, Brazil is providing training to the Haitian National Police and will soon inaugurate a professional training center in the south of the country, at a cost of 17 million dollars.

The Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, who also took part in the meeting of the Caribbean regional organization, traveled today to Kenya, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, with a view to work with Kenyan authorities to, among other things, finalize the modalities for the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), informs the Ministry of Communication.

In a statement from Caricom members, it is reported that Henry has agreed to share power with the country’s political opposition, before holding elections by mid-2025.
