“The United Nations in Haiti remains attentive to the ongoing efforts to establish a transitional government as soon as possible. We want to see active participation of women and young people in the political process. As part of their mandate, the United Nations in Haiti will support the work of the authorities to put in place the necessary conditions for the holding of (next) elections,” wrote the United Nations Integrated Office (Binuh), on its account .

Binuh said he noted with satisfaction the efforts recorded in the process of establishing the transitional authorities.

“The unanimous election by the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) of a new prime minister, in the person of Gary Conille, represents an important step forward. The new government that will follow must get to work, as soon as possible, to respond to the urgent needs of Haitians. The European Union renews its commitment to providing its support, in the areas of its competence, to promote this process and the upcoming elections,” declares, in a tweet, the Ambassador (since September 1, 2022) of the Union European (EU) in Haiti, the Italian Stefano Gatto.

For its part, the Organization of American States (Oea) says it is determined to support the next transitional government in its efforts to secure Haiti, reform the Constitution and prepare for national elections.

The Caribbean Community (Caricom) commends the Presidential Transitional Council (PTC) for prioritizing national interests, while continuing “to move forward in restoring security and establishing the broadly representative institutions necessary to provision of public services, provision of humanitarian relief, socio-economic facilitation and the holding of free and fair elections in a timely manner.”

There are still many challenges to overcome, recognizes Caricom, which says it looks forward to the rapid completion of the process, aimed at officially establishing the transitional governance institutions, in accordance with the agreement of April 3, 2024, which following the political agreement of March 11, 2024, concluded, under the auspices of Caricom, with different political groups in Haiti.

The unanimous election of Dr. Garry Conille by the Presidential Transitional Council (Cpt) “constitutes another important step on the path to free and fair elections, and the return to constitutional order in Haiti,” underline the heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), in a note dated May 30, 2024.

Welcoming the appointment of a transitional prime minister in Haiti, Caricom reiterates its commitment to support the Cpt, the new prime minister-designate and the Haitian people.

The decree appointing Garry Conille as Prime Minister of the transition was officially published on Wednesday May 29, 2024, in the official newspaper “Le Moniteur” of the republic.

In a statement, the United States Department of State urges the Presidential Transitional Council (PTC) and the new Prime Minister, Garry Conille, “to work collaboratively and engage all stakeholders in supporting the Haitian people, who continue to suffer from the brutality of terrible gang violence.”

The United States government encourages Cpt and Garry Conille to move quickly to appoint a credible, responsible and inclusive government.
