Two cannons were reported missing from the Citadelle Laferrière, located in the north of the country, reports Milot Culture on social networks this Sunday, June 2, 2024.
“We strongly denounce the unexplained disappearance of 2 bronze cannons in the citadel. We ask for urgent clarification on the disappearance of these 2 bronze cannons. We ask ISPAN to provide the community with proper information about the disappearance of these 2 cannons”, peut-on read on the Facebook page of Milot Culture, calling for urgent measures.
For his part, presidential advisor Fritz Alphonse Jean strongly criticized the management of the country’s historical heritage, expressing his dissatisfaction with the lack of security around the site and questioning the role of the Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN) .
“Theft of 2 culverins from the Citadel. 2 small cannons. It is unacceptable that the Citadel of Christophe, one of the most prestigious monuments of our heritage, is abandoned at such a level of insecurity. Where is the general management of Ispan? », he asked, deploring the lack of protection and surveillance around this emblematic site.
The Citadel, erected at an altitude of 970 meters, is one of the most prestigious fortresses on the American continent.
According to available information, it houses a collection of bronze cannons, almost unique in the world. These pieces come from France, England, Naples and Spain.
Remember that since 1982, the Citadelle Laferrière, the Palais Sans-Souci and the Ramiers have been classified as UNESCO world heritage sites.
