Saturday September 16, 2023 ((rezonodwes.com))–

The National Federation of Christian Social Transport Workers (Fenattransc), under the leadership of union leader Mario Díaz, has taken the radical decision to prohibit its affiliated drivers from transporting Haitian citizens, whether they are in an irregular situation or not.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the Executive Office of the drivers’ union as a sign of protest against the construction of a canal aimed at using the waters of the Massacre River at the border to irrigate land in the Maribaroux plain.

Starting Monday, no Haitian will be allowed to be transported in Fenattransc vehicles, whether in Greater Santo Domingo or in other provinces of the country. The move aims to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers, amid growing concerns over the presence of Haitians, who are seen by the ultra-nationalists in power as potentially dangerous.

In addition, the rental of transport cars (concho) to Haitian persons is also strictly prohibited, under penalty of sanctions and expulsion for drivers violating this provision.

Mario Díaz called on other transport unions in the country to consider a similar measure, highlighting the risks linked to the presence of Haitians in vehicles, who can often be in possession of bladed weapons and work tools that could be used to attack Dominican citizens.

Finally, Díaz indicated that the same ban applies to the union’s motorcycle taxi stops, where it is now prohibited to transport or rent motorcycles to Haitian citizens, due to the precarious situation and the perception of threat. what this population represents.
