Garry Conille visits the Port-au-Prince General Hospital: an institution awaiting rehabilitation
On Tuesday morning, Dr. Garry Conille visited the construction site of the Port-au-Prince General Hospital, which has been under construction for over a decade. The inspection, announced by the Prime Minister’s Office, did not provide any new information on the date of commissioning of this institution, which is struggling to prove its usefulness for the underprivileged population.
Dr Conille, accompanied by presidential adviser Dr Louis Gérald Gilles and national police director general Rameau Normil, inspected the site after the national police took control of it, according to statements from the PNH, which did not give details of the operation.
The General Hospital, heavily damaged by the earthquake of January 2010, saw its reconstruction funds largely embezzled, according to a report from the Court of Auditors, by influential members of the PHTK-Tèt Kale 1 regime, to which Dr. Conille belonged.
The current state of the unfinished hospital reflects ongoing concerns about corruption and mismanagement of public funds in Haiti.
