The tragic death of Landy Párraga, a former beauty queen, has added another name to the list of public figures sacrificed in Ecuador. In a context where, in the last fortnight, armed attacks have been carried out against two mayors, this event highlights a frightening wave of criminal violence which, despite the efforts of the State to strengthen security, continues its deadly course.

At just 23 years old, Landy Párraga stood out not only for his beauty, but also for his commitment to community and social activities. She was elected beauty queen of the rural town of Venus del Río Quevedo, as well as Miss Tourism of Quevedo in 2019, and three years later she was crowned Miss Mesoamérica Ecuador.

Her active presence on social media, where she had a considerable audience of around 150,000 followers on Instagram, revealed her side as a social communicator and CEO of a company specializing in importing home goods and toys , among other products.

In addition to her commitment to the world of beauty and business, Párraga stood out for her volunteer work at the Quevedo Gerontological Center, as well as her contribution to the reconstruction of solidarity shelters in the province of Manabí after the devastating earthquake. from 2016.

However, his name also emerged in the tumultuous “Metastase” file, a network of alleged judicial, police and prison corruption unleashed after the death of drug trafficker Leandro “El Patrón” Norero.

Párraga’s tragic outcome occurred in a restaurant in Quevedo, where she was surprised by an assailant who entered the establishment and shot her dead.

This tragic episode, captured in a video circulating on social media, highlights the vulnerability of public figures in the face of the growing criminal violence plaguing Ecuador, leaving in its wake a deep sense of dismay and urgency to address the roots of this harmful phenomenon.
