Edgard Leblanc Fils, former president of the national assembly and member of the Collective of January 30, was designated by a clear majority within the Présodentiel Council to occupy the position of President of the Presidential Transitional Council on April 30, 2024. The majority is composed of Smith Augustin, Edgard Leblanc, Louis Gerald Gilles and Emmanuel Vertilere. Dr. Gilles, also a candidate, finally withdrew in favor of Edgard Leblanc.
It is now official, Edgard Leblanc Fils has been chosen as President of the Transitional Presidential Council. His main responsibility will be to coordinate efforts within the council, which was given the previous week the heavy task of restoring public order in a country torn by insecurity and the proliferation of gangs. The announcement was made by Pastor Frinel Joseph, a non-voting member of the Presidential Council acting as a member of the electoral office. He stressed that the choice was not made following an election as initially planned.
“And the result is that, ladies and gentlemen, today, Tuesday, April 30, we have a well-known president within the presidential council, who will coordinate the council according to the agreement that was reached between the different stakeholder entities “continued Mr. Joseph.
Additionally, a majority of the body’s members recommended Fritz Bélizaire for the post of prime minister, as announced by Frinel Joseph, one of the two non-voting members on the council, promising to bring “much more explanations” on this subject in the near future.
This new leadership, embodied by Edgard Leblanc Fils, opens a new chapter in the history of Haiti, with the hope that the Transitional Council will be able to address the urgent challenges facing the country and chart a path towards a more stable and prosperous future.
