Five agents from the Protected Areas Surveillance Brigade (BSAP) were killed and three others arrested, this Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Laboule 10, during exchanges with the national police.
Police sources confirmed that at least five agents of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP) had been killed and three others arrested, during clashes with the national police, in Laboule 10, commune of Pétion-ville, in the afternoon of Wednesday February 7, 2024.
Information obtained by the Loop indicates that the BSAP agents refused to obey the orders of the PNH agents, who had ordered them to lay down their weapons.
These events occurred as demonstrators once again took to the streets in several cities across the country to demand the departure of Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
According to our information, demonstrators present in Pétion-Ville quickly headed towards Laboule in support of the BSAP agents. The police used tear gas and shots to disperse the crowd, we learned.
Since the announcement of the “revolution” advocated by rebel leader Guy Philippe, a standoff has gradually emerged between two bodies: on one side, the Haitian National Police, and on the other side, the BSAP which also supports the movement aimed at bringing down the power of Ariel Henry.
Remember that at the end of January, the government took the decision to ban agents of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP) to circulate in cities with firearms from this Monday, January 29, 2024.
“No environmental agent with firearms whatsoever, and under any pretext, is authorized, whether in uniform or not, to circulate in the cities,” declared the government, justifying this decision by “the concern for improvement of the country’s security climate and to bring peace and tranquility for all Haitians.”
This measure, according to the press release, is part of a broader restructuring process of the National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP), of which the BSAP is an entity. In this sense, the government had invited all employees and people affiliated with this institution to register with the nearest Ministry of the Environment.
