A tropical storm named Alberto formed this Wednesday morning in the Gulf of Mexico, announced the Haiti Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM).

Alberto, the first tropical cyclone of the season, is moving with a maximum wind of 65 kilometers per hour.

Given the trajectory of this tropical storm, it does not represent any threat to Haiti, indicates the UHM in its bulletin this Wednesday. However, the government entity says it is carefully following the evolution and trajectory of Alberto to inform the Haitian population.

Haiti is not out of the woods since the country is under the influence of a tropical wave located on the southern part of the island. This could cause “heavy” thunderstorms in several departments, including Grand-Anse, Nippes and the South-East.

“These showers could spread to other departments late in the afternoon and evening,” warns the UHM.

For Port-au-Prince and its surroundings, the UHM does not rule out some light rain showers late in the afternoon and evening.

The minimum temperature for this Wednesday, June 19 could drop to 18 degrees Celsius while the maximum varies between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius.
