As announced in a video on social media, poet Frantz Benjamin, a member of the Haitian community in Montreal, participated, as a guest author, in the fourth session of the reading club of the Embassy of Haiti in Ottawa, held on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

The objective, according to Ambassador Weibert Arthus, is to bring the Haitian community closer to Canada through literature.

This session, hosted by Naomie Calice, brought together not only members of the Haitian community, literature enthusiasts but also some Haitian authors and those from the African community. This allowed for remarkable, enriching and at times emotionally charged exchanges.

Benjamin, also a member of the National Assembly of Quebec, was able to captivate the attention of an audience thirsty for beautiful words from beginning to end, as much through the reading, musicality and beauty of his texts as through his career as a poet, novelist and politician.

The author took the opportunity to reiterate his attachment to Haiti, his native land, and confided the positive influence of his parents on his personal journey, his fulfilled duties as a son, father, and citizen.
