Government targeted subsidy program officially launched

During a ceremony, the government officially launched, this Tuesday, September 5, the targeted subsidy program for public transport vehicles and business supervision of the “Multi-sector program for social appeasement and reintegration of vulnerable groups “.

According to Prime Minister Ariel Henry, the priority objective of this program is to improve the living conditions of marginalized sections of the population and to fight against poverty and social exclusion.

During this launch the government distributed 3,027 oil cards and around 400 subsidy checks to SMEs. This targeted subsidy is estimated at several tens of millions of gourdes.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Ricardin Saint Jean indicates that the oil card is in a testing phase, it offers an amount of 15,200 gourdes to drivers of public transport vehicles. He warns that the expected results will not be achieved immediately but that state officials plan to continue the program with the goal of distributing 100,000 cards.

In addition, 400 checks were distributed to small and medium-sized businesses. This subsidy affects several sectors of activity, notably the purchasing and sales, services, agro-industry and construction sectors. The subsidy should be set at a maximum of 500,000 gourdes, according to the Minister of Commerce

This initiative initiated by the Haitian Government is a social program to help poor populations, the cost is estimated at 21 billion 600 million gourdes, the financing is mainly supported by the International Monetary Fund (FMI) through the Food Shock Window.
