Residents of the town of Colombier in Gressier reported the assassination of a police officer, several bandits and the burning of an armored vehicle during clashes between police and bandits.

The coordinator of the National Union of Haitian Police Officers (SYNAPOHA) confirms scenes of clashes Monday between police officers and bandits in Colombier in the commune of Gressier. According to Lionel Lazarre, an armored police vehicle was set on fire by bandits linked to the criminal organization “103 Zombi”.

The trade unionist highlights the defective state of the armored vehicle in which the police officers were, whose lives were only saved by a miracle.

At the same time, local sources report the case of a police officer shot in the testicles and several bandits shot dead by the police. The security situation in the town of Gressier, deserted since May 11 by its residents following the gang invasion, continues to deteriorate. While it is true that the Haitian National Police (PNH) announced that they had regained control of the police station, on the other hand, bandits still dominate the heights, reports a resident on condition of anonymity.

In a context where the arrival of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) is still awaited, the PNH continues to confirm its weakness in maintaining peace.
