P-au-P., March 27, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The Presidential Transitional Council is preparing “its official assumption of office”, informs the entity in a first press release issued on March 27 and sent to AlterPresse.

“As soon as it is installed, the Presidential Council will appoint a Prime Minister, with whom it will constitute a Government of National Unity and put Haiti back on the path to democratic legitimacy, stability and dignity,” promises the Council, without providing details on the date of its installation.

AlterPresse reproduces the full content of this press release:

At this moment of serious crisis for our nation, the representatives of the main political, civil society, religious and economic sectors of Haiti announce their collective decision to lead, through the formation of a Presidential Council, the transition towards the reestablishment of the constitutional order.
We are determined to alleviate the suffering of the Haitian people, trapped for too long between bad governance, multifaceted violence and disregard for their perspectives and needs.

Upon its installation, the Presidential Council will appoint a Prime Minister, with whom it will constitute a Government of National Unity and put Haiti back on the path to democratic legitimacy, stability and dignity.

The Presidential Council informs the population, the Haitian diaspora and the international community of the preparation for its official assumption of office.

We have developed the criteria and mechanisms for the choice of the president of the Presidential Council, the appointment of a new Prime Minister and the ministerial cabinet.

Together, we will execute a clear action plan aimed at restoring public and democratic order through the restoration of security of lives and property of the population, the relief of poverty and the achievement of free elections as well as necessary reforms to
the progress of the nation.

The Presidential Council is finalizing a document on its organization and mode of operation including a transparent political agreement between the sectors involved in the process.

The Presidential Council salutes the bravery and work of law enforcement officers in securing public space despite the challenges of this difficult environment.

We are at a crucial turning point that calls us to unity. It is imperative that the entire nation comes together to overcome this crisis for the well-being of all and a better future for our country.

May the spirit of our ancestors inspire and protect us. God bless Haiti. Ayibobo!
