THE HAITI FACTOR, May 8, 2024._ “Early pregnancy” was the concept investigated by the leaders of the structures called “Rasanbleman Sitwayen ak Sitwayèn Kominote Aktif pou Devlopman (RASSKAD)”. The work is supported by Concern Worldwide.

The survey carried out over 3 months in the areas of Saint-Martin, La Saline and Cité Soleil (West), concerns young people (girls and boys) aged between 14 and 24 years old.

On a sample of 79 people including 63 girls and 16 boys, the survey revealed that 80% of young people of both sexes became mothers and fathers early. This was communicated by the leaders of the aforementioned entities including Wilbert René and Jean Frithzlande, respectively Deputy Coordinator and General Coordinator of RASSKAD.

They presented the result during a forum organized in Pétion-Ville around the theme: “ Children don’t make Children ».

Present at the forum, Wilbert René, Deputy Coordinator of Rasanbleman Sitwayen ak Sitwayèn Kominote Aktif pou Devlopman (RASSKAD), suggested that unemployment, poverty, non-schooling and insecurity are, among other things, the occasional causes of early pregnancy, according to testimonies.

Individual and collective rapes perpetrated by bandits against young women are also part of it, they argue.

Based on the results of the investigation Wilbert René encourages state authorities to work to help young people living in marginalized neighborhoods.
