The Kenyan and Haitian Governments initialed on Friday March 1, 2024, the bipartite agreement authorizing the deployment, in Haiti, of 1,000 police officers through the Security Support Mission. It was the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki and the Minister of Security of Haiti at State House who initialed the document in the presence of President William Ruto and the de facto Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, reports the Kenyan press.
THE HAITI FACTOR, March 1, 2024._The 1,000 police officers that Kenya offered to Haiti as part of the deployment of the Security Support Mission (MSS) are finally authorized to return to Haiti. They are authorized to set foot on Haitian soil following the agreement initialed on Friday March 1, 2024 between the Kenyan and Haitian authorities.
According to the local media “Kenyans.co.ko”, it was the Secretary of the Interior Cabinet of the Kenyan Government, Kithure Kindiki and the Minister of Security of Haiti at the State House who affixed their signatures under the document .
The agreement, continues the aforementioned media, was signed under the eyes of President William Ruto and the de facto Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, while, initially, the Supreme Court of Nairobi had prohibited the deployment of police officers in Haiti, calling it unconstitutional.
Before the signing of the agreement, President William Ruto, during the meeting held at the State House, promised to help Haiti resolve the gang problem in the Caribbean country. He was content to come to the aid of the Haitians because the two countries share the same origin.
“We are offering the experience and expertise of our police officers under the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, in line with the mandate of the United Nations Security Council and the directives of our courts,” Ruto said, according to the local press.
