Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis wins the “Best Supporting Actor” award at the AMAA2023

Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis won, yesterday, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Balmoral Convention Center in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria the “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” award in the film “RISE”, according to a tweet from the AMAA .

The 19th edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA23) took place yesterday Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the prestigious Balmoral Convention Center in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. During this ceremony, Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis was crowned “Best Actor in a Supporting Role”.

He was awarded for his supporting role in the film “RISE” in which he played the role of Modu.

The Haitian actor was in competition with different actors namely Francis Onwuchei for the Nigerian film The Trade; Jeff Jackson for the South African film Four Walls; Hakeem Kae-Kazim for that of Rwandan Fight like a girl.

Through a tweet this Monday morning Jimmy thanked AMAA for this award. “Thank you to the Africa Movie Academy Awards for the Best Supporting Actor award. I play Modu in the movie RISE,” he tweeted.

According to reports, this film directed by Maritte Lee Go, Broderick Engelhard and Eric Fleischman tells the story of a conflict between Nigerians and the jihadist rebels of Boko Haram who have a history of reducing women and girls into sexual slavery. The central story concerns a Nigerian princess who infiltrated a Boko Haram slave camp to rescue her kidnapped sister after the jihadist organization’s men killed her family members.

The Africa Movie Academy Awards are cinema awards awarded every year since 2005 in Nigeria for African films. The AMA Awards are considered the most prestigious awards in African cinema.

Jimmy Jean Louis was born in Pétion-Ville on August 8, 1968. He is a Haitian actor, model, dancer and philanthropist. In 2002 he made a film with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Point d’impact. He then worked with Bruce Willis and Monica Bellucci in Tears of the Sun (2003), with Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett in Hollywood Homicide, with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez in His Mother or Me (2005) or with Gerard Butler, Patrick Stewart and Wes Bentley in The Match of Their Lives (2005) among others.
In 2018, Jimmy Jean-Louis won the Best Short Film Award at the 26th Pan-African Film and Arts Festival in Los Angeles.
