Havana syndrome: diplomats were victims of a sonic weapon, according to an international investigation by media outlets including CBS, The Insider and Der Spiegel

An international investigation carried out by several media outlets, including CBS, The Insider and Der Spiegel, revealed that the mysterious Havana syndrome, affecting American diplomats for several years, is linked to a Russian intelligence unit. Since 2016, U.S. and Canadian diplomats stationed in Cuba have reported various symptoms such as migraines, dizziness, nausea and blurred vision.

These health incidents, described as “abnormal” by American authorities, have also been reported in other countries, notably in China, Germany, Australia, Russia and Austria, as well as in Washington. Initially, some speculation downplayed these symptoms, attributing them to stress, while others spoke of potential attacks, suspecting countries like Russia.

The investigation by the aforementioned media outlets, spanning more than a year, suggests that these diplomats may have been targeted by a Russian sonic weapon. According to this investigation, the unrest could be linked to the use of directed energy weapons, manipulated by members of unit 29 155 of the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service.

This unit, which specializes in overseas operations, has already been involved in several cases, including the attempted poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in the United Kingdom in 2018. According to a former senior CIA official, this unit operates on a global scale to carry out lethal operations and acts of sabotage.

The media investigation also reveals that the first cases of Havana syndrome were reported in Germany two years before those reported in Cuba in 2016. In Frankfurt, an employee at the United States consulate reportedly lost consciousness after being exposed to what appears to be a “strong ray of energy”.
