The first Haitian Ariel Henry left yesterday, Sunday, February 25, 2024, for the capital of Guyana, Georgetown, with a view to participating in the 46th ordinary meeting of heads of state and government of Caricom which is being held from 25 to February 28, 2024. This was informed by the Ministry of Culture and Communication (MCC) in a press release published yesterday.
According to this press release, the participation of Caribbean countries in the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) will be on the agenda, as well as other subjects of national interest, during this meeting devoted in particular the economy, the single market and free movement.
The neurosurgeon who has occupied the Prime Minister’s Office since July 2021 must participate in several panels, as well as bilateral meetings with heads of state and government of several countries in the region, on the sidelines of this 46th Caricom meeting.
After the various meetings in which the Haitian PM will take part in Georgetown, he will fly to Nairobi, capital of Kenya, to finalize the modalities of the deployment of the MMSS with Kenyan authorities and those of other countries on the African continent.
His interim position will be ensured during his short absence by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Michel Patrick Boisvert, concludes the MCC press release.
Note that this official visit by the Haitian Prime Minister will take place in a context where the Kenyan authorities have canceled a bilateral meeting with Haiti on the deployment of Kenyan police officers in the country.
According to American media, the cancellation of this meeting is due to the fact that the two countries had not reached an agreement on the deployment of Kenyan police officers in Haiti, while as promised by President William Ruto, Kenya was ready to announce new mission dates.
