The torrential rains which fell on the North-West from April 26 to 29 caused floods and landslides and significant damage.
More than 200 houses were flooded last weekend in Saint-Louis du Nord, North-West according to Civil Protection. Several other neighborhoods reported flooding including Nan Demelis, Lòt bò pon and Nan Dyerilinon…
Civil Protection teams are mobilized to provide assistance to disaster victims and assess the situation to better meet the needs of the population.
The rains, which continued to fall Monday morning, made traffic almost impossible in certain streets due to the accumulation of rubbish, mud and water.
A bridge, connecting these two towns in the Upper North-West, was damaged by the overflowing waters of a swollen river.
The provisional toll is 3 deceased people from the same family who perished on the afternoon of Sunday April 28, 2024, during the collapse of a wall on the roof of their house on rue l’Hôpital de Port de Paix they are: Elda Belfort (54 years old) and her two children Yoldine Sila, (32 years old), and Roodarlens (5 years old).
