René Jean-Jumeau, one of the representatives of civil society in the Presidential Transitional Council in Haiti, announced to his colleagues his withdrawal from the said Council, yesterday Monday March 25, 2024 in the evening.
Indexed in the report on the squandering of Petrocaribe funds, for having been a former minister delegate to the Prime Minister, responsible for energy security under the Martelly-Lamothe administration, René Jean-Jumeau announced to his colleagues, in a message, that he leaves the Council.
“I come out of meetings and consultations with my group. I’m really sorry for the short notice, but I want to give you free reign, without interference. I am going to withdraw from the Council, as I explained,” declared the person quoted by Métronome.
“After today’s reactions, I will not be able to offer my services as a volunteer secretary as I had thought about doing,” Jumeau wrote on the Council group.
This is therefore the second resignation recorded within the CP after that of Dominique Dupuy. If for Dupuy the replacement is already known, in the person of Smith Augustin, former ambassador of Haiti to the Dominican Republic, Jumeau’s replacement is still not known, which delays the process of designating a president for the council .
Recall that the Montana agreement had requested the postponement of the elections to appoint a president for the council for 72 hours, denouncing a lack of transparency in the process since the candidates are already known.
