Interview before match: Nérilia Mondesir would promise a Haitian victory

By Peterson Pierre-Louis

After having missed their direct qualification for the first edition of the Women’s Gold Cup which will be played in the United States, the national team finds itself obliged to play the play-offs against Puerto Rico this Saturday, February 17, 2024. As a prelude to this final meeting counting for a last qualifying place, the captain of the senior women’s selection, Nérilia Mondésir accompanied by her coach Frédéric Gonçalves was present during the traditional pre-match conference. She believes in a team victory.

After the various answers from coach Gonçalves, it was the turn of the senior player of this selection, Nérilia Mondésir. In a calm tone, Nérigol answered questions from the journalists present during this interview.

From the World Cup until today. What has changed in the team and how is the integration of new players into the squad?

“Not much really. We adapt to the work of the staff. Certainly there are new players but we have to deal with them.” she insisted.

You will play without Melchie D. Dumornay, your partner for some time. Will this change anything?

And what can we expect from you tomorrow?

“I’ve been there in this team and it’s not going to change now. With or without Melchie. It’s true that the new girls don’t have Melchie’s characteristics but they know how to play football and we’re going to play tomorrow to win” she uttered vehemently.

In the last World Cup and also in the last match where you conceded a late goal. You were very agitated then and you subsequently made very relevant statements.

What instructions can Nérilia give with this news?

“The instructions are for the coach. On the ground I will do my job. I will try to guide them. I’m not agitated but I don’t like to lose. She confides.

Haiti has no room for error if it wants to participate in this competition. If it is true that the history between the two teams works in favor of the grenadières. Their sole mission will be to qualify the team for this Gold Cup. Furthermore, the competition will begin on February 23. With the presence of the Vilain sisters, Anyssa Ibrahim and Chelsea Domond mixed with the regulars of the said selection, the country also hopes for a victory for the blue and red.
